Vista SP1 error code 80070002

I’ve been googling a lot just to find out, how solve error 0×80070002 during Vista SP1 installation. There’s lots of pages and forums, which describes on how to fix it. I also try to contact Microsoft throught support.microsoft.com. They replied my support request fast enough (only have to wait a day).

They suggested me to disable all non MS services and startup programs prior to SP1 installation. Done it and still get the same error code. Replied the support people and they said, I should make inplace upgrade over my existing Vista. They convinced me, that this inplace upgrade only overwrite all Vista system files but not my configuration or installed program.

I’m not gonna do it!!!! Not until I finish my exam. What if this inplace upgrade screw up and I have to install Vista from scratch? I don’t have that much time, not before I finish my exam.

By the way, I’m talking about Vista Business installed with Boot Camp on Macbook Pro. In general I’m really satisfied with Leopard, but there two things that Leopard can not satisfied me. Game and OneNote/Visio. I’m only installing Vista on Mac only to play some games (due to powerful CPU and graphics, compares to my almost 4 year old desktop) and running OneNote/Visio.

I have to admit that OneNote is the best program to take notes quickly and yet neat. And I haven’t found any comparable for Mac. This applies with Visio too. There is Omni Graffle, which seems really as powerful as Visio. But why should I have to pay about 100 US$, if the uni provides me Visio for free???
